Hydra
Creature
The Hydra is a many-headed reptilian horror of the deep marsh and the still, dark waters, a serpentine bulk from which a writhing crown of snapping heads rises, each hunting independently, each able to strike while the others feed. The old terror of it is true: sever a head carelessly and the stump may sprout two in its place, so that a clumsy fight only multiplies the foe. The deep-marsh folk who must live near them know the trick - the wound must be seared, not merely cut - and a party that does not know it can find a single Hydra becoming, by their own frantic hacking, a forest of jaws.
