The Onyx of the Crown is the darkest of the seven jewels of the Obsidian Crown, the lost regalia of the old kings, scattered when the Cataclysm tore the world apart. Where the seven came to rest, none can say - and of the seven, it is the Onyx that the old tales warn against most. It is the stone of making and unmaking both: the power to break a thing utterly, and to remake it into something other. Its gift is real, and so is its peril. The Onyx's curse is the slow darkening of whoever bears it - a shadow that creeps into the soul of the carrier, deepening by degrees, until the bearer may be far gone before they ever feel it take hold.
