The Drowned Kingdom

In the age of the Builders the Reach was said to hold eight kingdoms, not the seven the maps now show. The eighth was the one the Gulf took. When the Cataclysm rent the great wound open, the flood it loosed swallowed that kingdom whole, drowning its people and its works together in a single catastrophe and leaving the maps forever short by one. All that remains above the water is a small ruined island at the dead center of the Gulf, wreathed in the Forever Storm that has hidden it for three thousand years - and so few living souls have ever seen even that much. The drowned kingdom passed almost entirely out of memory; it survives now as a half-believed story, an eighth that the old songs name and the new maps do not, lost beneath the storm and the waters of the Gulf.
