The Hold is the Builders' masterwork: a great working raised in the deep past to resist the Drawing and keep the world from being pulled into the dark. For an age it held, and the Reach prospered in the shelter of it. But the Hold has been failing for some three thousand years - since the catastrophe - and as it weakens the Drawing rises and the storm over the Gulf rages. To restore the Hold is the true stake of everything, though almost no one alive understands that this is what they are fighting for.
