Giant Bat

The Giant Bat roosts in the deep places - caves, mineshafts, the upper vaults of ruins - hanging in clusters that drop screeching into flight at the first intrusion. It sees the world in sound rather than light, and in the pitch dark of its own halls it is a swift and disorienting thing, swooping and battering at torch-bearers to put out their only advantage. By daylight it is half-blind and easily killed; the trouble is that it rarely lets a man reach daylight.
